haha, I love how this video has suddenly been viewed a fair bit recently. I appreciate the helpful words but this was just a stupid mistake by me, the plane itself had been cobbled back together after years in storage and didn't hold much personal value to me, so I just wasn't being that cautious with it. Feel free to have a look at my other videos to see how well I usually launch, with many years of experience.

Thanks for the comment, normally I would agree with you. If you watch any of my other videos on here you'll see I don't need any advice or help... this was what some people call an "accident". Did I throw it like a dumbass? Yes I did. Have I launched this particular aircraft over 40 times in the past with no issues? Yes I have. I don't take it personally when people shout at me on the internet, I hope you have a lovely day buddy.

Perfectly understandable question... When using a dipole antenna, it's important to keep the orientation on the transmitting end the same as the orientation on the aircraft... as best as possible. Of course the aircraft rolls and climbs but for long range the aircraft is normally flying level. Therefore it's important that you hold your transmitter very still and with the antenna in the same position for the entire flight, but MOST importantly whilst the aircraft is out at a long distance. By having the crossfire tx module static on a tripod, this ensures the antenna is also static and in the correct position at all times. This allows you to move around the launch location, or put the transmitter down on a table whilst in loiter or cruise mode for example. Many flights I've done have had durations in excess of 1 hour, so keeping your hands perfectly still to keep the antenna in optimal orientation can be tiring. Another would be in case I was flying from a location that had buildings, structures or an uneven terrain causing potential line of sight issues between myself holding the transmitter and the aircraft. In these instances I could place the relay unit on a tripod up on top of one of the structures or higher up a hill (or possibly to the top of a tower or extendable pole) to ensure perfect line of sight between the crossfire Tx module and the aircraft, whilst also creating a perfect line of sight between myself and the relay unit. The relay unit and myself being static, would ensure an unbroken line of communication. and the relay unit being up high would ensure an unbroken line of communication from itself to the aircraft. A further use case could be for flying in different relatively hostile weather conditions such as very warm sunny days or very cold winter days. For long duration flights I could be in shelter, either inside a car or lightweight structure to protect myself or simply stay comfortable and transmit my 2.4 signal to the relay on a tripod that I leave outside, or on the roof of the shelter (either a tent, car, van, shed etc... My 2.4 signal would easily pass through such a lightweight structure to the nearby tripod bound relay, and then be re-transmitted via the actual control link (crossfire) to the aircraft. Personally I found the stock CG marks just right, never had any issues to be honest.

@@grim-upnorth foam doesn't melt with hot glue ? Just bought the dart xl extreme and I have to be sure 😁

​@@mode2fpv yes the foam does melt a little with the hot glue, but that's what makes such a strong bond. Apply the bead of hot glue to the foam and pushed the rods into it. If you put the hotglue on the rod, it will cool down too quickly and just go hard on the rod before you get it against the foam. If you're worried about melting too much foam, you can use E6000 glue.

It is not difficult but there is a lot to consider. Much of the success is due to experience and background support, such as having the right tools, space and facilities to build such a project. With a lot of experience in rc planes electronics and radio frequency theory, and a good workshop with good tools and materials, it's easy. But without, it's more challenging.

Hi, thanks. If you pause the video at 45 seconds in, the bottom left picture is what I see in my goggles. It's not a HD picture but it's still very good quality. The top left picture is being recorded on a gopro. The FPV camera and the Gopro are both mounted on a servo so I can look left and right both with my flying view and the gopro recording. The peanut camera is just mounted on the tail of the plane and recording, no live view from that 👍🏻

I bought this with my own money. I made this video because those reviewers who DID get them for free are too preoccupied trying to keep the manufacturer happy, they didn't mention it comes without these things.

Unfortunately I've never owned the 250g Dart.

There may have been some changes to the procedure since I made this video, updates to the files or inav config that I'm not aware of. If you followed this video exactly, and it still didn't work then I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to help. Hope you figure it out buddy.

@@grim-upnorth before long pressing the MDL button, did you eject and plug the Zorro/its SD card?

@@spectrexfpv Once I was finished doing the actions on the computer regarding the files and folders, yes I unplugged the Zorro from the computer. Can you also check that you've done the following before attempting any of this... 1. Have INAV installed on a compatible flight controller 2. Enable "Telemetry output" from the configuration tab within the INAV Configurator 3. Enable telemetry for the receiver on your model (Crossfire/FrSky/ELRS etc.) This relies upon a two way communication between the radio you're using inside the Zorro (crossfire or ELRS etc) and the receiver installed in the model. For crossfire - like I have - There is an extra wire I need to connect between the flight controller and the receiver. It all depends on which flight controller you're using, but there will be a pin for telemetry out, often one of the UARTs. This needs to be connected to the telemetry pin/pad on the receiver. Hope this helps.

I have a friend who's tried both of these and the difference in performance is not noticeable at the kind of range we fly at these days. If you want to know which of those two antennas - all other components being identical - gets you the best picture at the furthest range, I'm afraid I wouldn't know. I've only ever flown max 8km, but had a perfect picture the entire way out and back. For me, I don't use 1.3 for outright range, but instead to give me an excellent image within 5-10km. Sure you can fly further than 10km on 5.8 but that band is more prone to interference and is easily blocked by trees and other greenery. I like to think of the range 1.3 can offer, as a safety net. I never intend on finding the limit of my 1.3 gear. Thanks.

Thanks. Yes it is, but only for the VTX. Means I can plug the lipo in and let the GPS get a good lock with the vtx off, so it doesn't overheat. And yes.... I have launched without turning the vtx on before lol 🤣
